I had the opportunity to take a doll making workshop with artist Wendy Froud a couple of years ago.  I really just wanted to meet her and be exposed to her fabulous work.  Well, I ended up becoming a "groupie".  The "dolls" on this page were created in both Wendy Froud and her son Toby Froud's workshops that I had the priviledge of hosting at the studio.  Wendy will be a guest at the Petaluma "Art of the Doll: Protection, Healing, Power & Play" show, opening July 17th, 2010.  I am pleased that Finn, Ms Emily and Ms Mamie will also be there.
Finn was created in my second Wendy Froud workshop.  He was met in the land of Fairie during a guided meditation.  During this meditation one was introduced to a being that would share a gift.  One of the exciting things about creating in Wendy's workshop is that you have no idea who you are making when you begin.  The meditation introduces many to their inspiration.  Finn is a mouse boy.  He has large ears giving him the ability to hear very faint thoughts, hopes and dreams.  He holds an orb of energy and gestures to the spot where such energy can be found.

Ms Emily was created in a Toby Froud puppet making Workshop.  She developed her character and her name when her sister Ms Maime came to life in a subsequent  workshop.  They were named the Baldwin Sisters after the infamous Baldwin sisters brought to life on the TV series the Waltons.  You can often hear them bantering to one another, just like their name sakes..."yes, sister."

Ms. Mamie found her identity when it was revealed that she had a sister by the name of Ms Emily.   Family can bring out the best in you.
